Carolyn’s picture book Even George has won a finalist award in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards in the Own Voices category.
Carolyn is very proud to be awarded in this category as so many of her readers from young to older and in between all say thank you for giving voice to ‘Georges’ in the world.
This category recognises children’s picture books created by authors whose lived experiences reflect the identities of the characters they portray. These works offer authentic representation across a range of marginalised identities, which may include race, ethnicity, gender, disability, or other underrepresented experiences.
Stories in this category can span many themes and narratives, but share a focus on authenticity, visibility, and empowerment. Strong entries present characters and experiences with care and nuance, helping young readers see themselves reflected in meaningful and affirming ways.
